PostScript is a language designed to take advantage of the capabilities of laser printers. The language can define lines and curves—and thus line art and print characters—and translate them to the dot-addressable graphics of laser printers.
Although designed for printing, PostScript is a powerful language that can be applied to other tasks.
Printer Command Language interfaces with certain printers but is less powerful than PostScript. It is the de facto standard printer language.
